[Malaysians in Singapore] Grid Mobile – Best High Data Mobile Plan – Dec 2019

Note: I can only write this review quantitatvely and not qualitatively. That is to say, I have not personally used their services before, so I a unable to comment on the quality of their reception.

I previously said that redONE was the best mobile plan for Malaysians in Singapore. I’m going to amend that comment slightly.

It is still a great plan, with the main benefits being that it’s cheap, includes a good amount of data for its price (relative to competitors), and the included data amount is useable in both Malaysia and Singapore.

However, if you’re a heavy data user, Grid Mobile is probably a superior option.

I stumbled upon Grid Mobile recently, and they’re competing in the somewhat crowded $20-25/mth space, alongside circles.Life, GIGA, GOMO, StarHub, M1.

Their main “USP” (Unique Selling Point/Proposition)? The inclusion of 1GB data per month specifically for Malaysia, alongside 40GB of Singapore-specific data, for $25/mth.

For heavy data users, this plan has got to be considered superior to the redONE alternatives. This plan is probably perfect for a heavy data user who on average goes to Malaysia once per month for 2-3 day trip (where I assume 1GB will be sufficient for those 2-3 days!).

The 40GB for Singapore specifically is the highest amount of local data you can get in the $20-25/mth market.

Other interesting things about Grid Mobile:

• They have a referral program that allows you to earn points for referring users to Grid Mobile. These points can then be used to offset the cost of your bill in the future
  • 100 points = $1, and you get 50pts/mth just for maintaining a service, 200pts for your birthday, and 250pts/mth for 3 months for referrring a friend
  • Auto redemption occurs when you have 1000pts, which is used to offset your bill (i.e. $10 discount)
• Adding a lot of data is not too expensive ($13.38 for 10GB), but adding only 1GB is quite expensive ($6.42)

TLDR/Summary

Grid Mobile is probably the best high data option for Malaysians in Singapore. I would say it’s most suitable for those who live in Singapore and return to Malaysia once per month for a 2-3 day period. They seem to support customer loyalty too, because they “reward” you for staying.

I have no personal experience with using them though, so I can’t comment on service in terms of reception nor customer service. Let me know if you have any comments!
